STEM IA

Short Term Memory Research Project

For my final project in STEM IA, my partner and I decided to research if background music played during the memorization has a significant effect on students' ability to memorize and recall information. We tested this theory on students by showing them several different foods to simulate a grocery list, while playing a commonly known pop song in the background. This testing was performed through a computer program called Scratch. Scratch was able to show the students different foods, while simultaneously playing the music. After we showed the test subject the list, my partner and I asked them to recite what they had just seen on the screen. The paper attached below is the final report of our findings from the research and data collection.
