Hello, my name is Oyinade Oyenusi, and I am a current sophomore at Roland Park Country School, an all girls college preparatory school located in Baltimore, MD. I began participating in my school’s STEM institute in the 8th grade and have been enrolled in the program every since. From the beginning of freshman year to the end of sophomore year, I have completed STEM IA, IB, IIA, and IIB. These courses have focused on different aspects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and each has brought many new skill acquisitions. During the summer of 2016, I participated in the Environmental Science Research Experience for Young Women (ESSRE), an internship opportunity run by my school. During this internship, I published a paper on the relationship between compaction, saturation, and iron levels in soil. I plan to continue my school’s STEM institute throughout my next two years of high school. My goal is to study medicine or psychology in college, and I am excited to see how STEM impacts and shapes my future career path.
