Briana Davis STEM Profolio

Hello my name is Briana Davis, I am currently a student at Roland Park Country School class of 2016. Towards the beginning of my high school career I developed a strong admiration for the STEM institute. Throughout high school career I've had the privilege of studying Biology, Physics and Chemistry which inspired me to peruse in studying more in depth of the sciences, technology, engineering and math. Summer prior to tenth grade year, 2013 I partakened in the Environmental Science Summer Research Experience for Young Women (ESSRE) at Roland Park Country School. Throughout this program of sixteen young women we created a snapshot of the environment and then realized that there was something poorly influencing the growth of plants throughout the RPCS backwoods. Therefore, we produced a soil ecology project based off of anomalies found in the biota survey data to uncover the truth behind discrepancies in various microbe populations and chemical levels found throughout the E.S.S.R.E. sites. For my long-term research project I will be studying blood types. I will be working with the American Red Cross studying the effects of race, gender and age on different blood types. Also, I will be studying Sickle Cell Anemia its effect on the African American race and focusing on the blood cells.

STEM Research Seminar 1A

Throughout STEM 1A we focused on the science and technology aspect of STEM and studied short term memory, and the effects of flashing lights on short term memory. Also, we created a seasonal change model calculator which calculated how the length of the day (hours) and the daily sunlight effected the leaf fall rate and the leaf color change completly.

STEM Researh Seminar 1B

In STEM 1B we focused on the Engerneering and Math aspect of STEM. We studied Robotics by building a mini robot and programed it to complete a set course using  light sensor to follow the path. To get the robot to move we had to create a threshold, which is the adverage of light. Another project we worked on related to product and package development. We developed a clay mask, choosing the ingredients we believe would make the best clay mask and also kept track of a cost analysis throughout the delvelopment of the clay mask.
