STEM Portfolio of Alanna Aboulafia

Welcome! My name is Alanna Aboulafia and I attend Roland Park Country School. I am an active member of the class of 2016 where I participate in the RPCS STEM Institute. Towards the begining of my freshman year, I realized that I was becoming more and more fond of the sciences. This was due to my participation in David Brock's Honors Biology class. The following year, I studied physics and thoughout my high school career, I am exploring the world of sceince, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

During the summer of 2013, I participated in The Environmenatl Sciences Summer Reaserch Experience for Young Women. There, along with fifteen other young women, I studied The Effect of Plant Variation on Chloride Levels. While doing research and testing the soil, I wrote a paper explaining the purpose of the experiment and what I found. Here is a copy of my paper: The Effect of Plant Variation on Chloride Levels (ppm)

STEM 1A: STEM 2A: STEM 2A: STEM 2B:
1. Short Term Memory Paper This paper examined the impact of auditory distractors on ones short term memory. I created a program from Scratch that tested the memory of six teens.

1. Robotic Challenge Point-to-Point
In this project, I changed the gears on the robot and allowed it to move around a black square.

1. Comparison of Spherical and Euclidean Geometry
The purpose of this paper was to highlight the similarities and differences of Spherical and Euclidean Geometry

1. Sunscreen Project
One of the final projects that I worked on

2. Seasonal Change Poster
This poster was created to show the effect of sunlight on both the fall rate and color of the leaves in the backyard of Roland Park.
